Filomena Julia Lopes Delgado "Tia Mana", 98, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 19, 2025. She was the widow of the late Joao Felipe Delgado.

Filomena was born on July 5, 1926 in Monte Joana, Santo Antao, Cabo Verde, to the late Francisco Antonio Lopes and Julia Maria (Delgado) Lopes. She immigrated to Senegal in 1962, and then to Rhode Island in 1976 where she resided until her passing.

Loved and cherished by all who knew her, she leaves behind a legacy of eight children, her “treasures” as she affectionally referred to them; three sons: Francisco, Corsino (Mona), and Denis Delgado: five daughters: Martina (Hartwig) Hars, Arminda (Herculano) Fernandes, Doris (Peter) Jansons, Anita (Devon) Kinkead, and Sonia (Dan) Johnson. She is also survived by her sister Lourenca Julia (Lopes) Gomes. Filomena loved and cherished her 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by brothers Martinho Francisco Lopes, Joao Francisco Lopes, Antonio Francisco Lopes, Joao DaCruz Lopes, and Manuel “Tio Lela” Lopes, and sisters Rosinha Lopes, Antonia Julia Lopes, Maria Julia (Lopes) Assuncao and Constancia Julia Lopes. She also leaves behind dozens of loving nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends here and abroad.
She was also the stepmother of Olivia Lopes, Hilaria Costa, Paulina Lopes, and the late Paula Jesus and Severiano Delgado.

Filomena, or Tia Mana or Nha Mana as she was affectionally known, was a devout follower of the Christian Rationalism doctrine and until her recent illness had long been a constant at the Christian Rationalism center in East Providence and Providence before that. So much so that she had one room dedicated to her at the East Providence location.

Tia Mana will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but the love she openly gave and received, and the sweet memories she leaves us with will make her live within our hearts. All of us are better and blessed for having had Filomena in our lives.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Calling Hours from 4pm-7pm on Friday May 23, 2025 at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave. Lincoln, RI 02865. A memorial service, also at Keefe, will immediately follow the calling hours. Funeral will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Filomena’s name to the Christian Rationalism Center, 410 Waterman Avenue, East Providence 02915.
